New downtown spot Tails Piano Bar and Lounge mixing craft cocktails with nightly music
“Another wonderful client to work with providing a much needed upscale establishment in our downtown.” said Terry Espy, Broker and Owner of Momentum Companies, Inc.
WILMINGTON – While sports bars and clubs with loud music are certainly popular, there are definitely some people who are looking for something a little more laid back – maybe with a little piano music. That’s where Tails PianoBar and Lounge hopes to fit in.
The new piano bar, owned by Gregg Thomas, takes over the old Aubriana’s location on North Front Street. Tails won’t be serving food, focusing instead on wine, cocktails and ambiance, according to spokesman Travis Gilbert.
“We’re looking to create a sophisticated place, we’re not interested in loud music, or a dozen TVs. We want a place people can come on a Friday night and have a conversation,” Gilbert said.
Gilbert said Tails will offer piano performances every night – an homage, of sorts, to the recently closed Costello’s.
“We were really disappointed with the loss of Costello’s,” Gilbert said. “It was the kind of place you could go after a night at Thalian
Hall or the Wilson Center…we’d take turns behind the piano, it was just a place to socialize and relax.”
According to Gilbert, work began in early January on the interior – and the outside garden area, which will open later in the spring.
“It’s been a wild two months, it’s been something every minute, but it’s really come together,” Gilbert said.
According to Gilbert, Tails will open to the public on Wednesday, March 14. The bar and lounge will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and on Sunday from 3 p.m. to midnight.
Tails Bar and Lounge will be located at 115 S. Front Street. Information about entertainment acts can be found at Tails’ website and Facebook page.
